Elon Musk, owner of Twitter, now X believes in free speech. This is important to Musk as he wants the internet to be a free speech zone.
Some people have racist ideas toward Jews, Black and Asian Americans etc. Why not censor them?
The reason is that the platform is a place of free speech. How then is he going to maintain this forum if he refuses to let people express ideas even if they are offensive to others?
Don Lemon (former CNN anchorman), derided Musk, accusing him of failing to moderate the platform. Lemon says that certain hate groups should never be given an opportunity to express themselves.
At that point Musk decided not to enter a commercial partnership with the former CNN anchorman.
This makes perfect sense. It would be impossible to maintain a platform of free speech if he were to censor ideas that are unpopular.
