Be careful what you wish for, that’s an old saying! For years the Republican Party was advocating that abortion was murder and that Roe vs. Wade should be overturned. Through careful manipulation by Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump conservative judges were accepted to the Supreme Court and sure enough the 1973 decision Roe vs. Wade was overturned. This decision allowed states to outlaw abortion.
Is it murder? If so, should mothers have the right to kill their babies? What if the mother’s life is at stake? What if the father is no longer present? What if the father ask the mother to terminate the pregnancy because he can’t afford it? What about cases of rape or incest? Shouldn’t the mother be in control of her own body? Why should the government get involved? How did this become partisan issue? But it did! The Democrats were on the side of abortion and the Republicans were on the side of anti-abortion.
This last election November 2022 the Democrats were way behind on everything. The border is a mess. The gas prices are crazy high. Inflation is through the roof and Biden’s approval numbers were low. The Democrats were going to get annihilated but Roe vs. Wade came to the rescue.
Now who cares about the border? Most people don’t live in border states. What difference is the price of a gallon of gas is if they’re going to put you in jail for having an abortion? What a gift to the Democratic Party. People who normally would not have voted, came out in droves to vote Democratic. Even Joe Biden’s low approval ratings didn’t matter.
Republican candidates are going to have to say that it was a bad decision in order to get votes. Maybe in the future the representation of the court will change and there will be a reversal. If not, this will cost the Republican Party for years to come. Be careful what you wish for!
